Robert Blick gives a talk at the ICAMET 07 conference about electron systems, ballistic billiards, free-standing quantum dots, and suspended gate-tunable nanostructures.

CHALK TALK: DNA

submitted by: nsf

DNA contains the genetic code used by all known living organisms. It also contains historical information, because it collects “mistakes,” called mutations, over time. DNA is a building block too--it has the ability to self-assemble into complex structures.

Supercapacitors Based on Flexible Graphene/Polyaniline Nanofiber Composite Films

submitted by: qwu
Composite films of chemically converted graphene (CCG) and polyaniline nanofibers (PANI-NFs) were prepared by vacuum filtration the mixed dispersions of both components. The composite film has a layered structure, and PANI-NFs are sandwiched between CCG layers. Furthermore, it is mechanically stable and has a high flexibility; thus, it can be bent into large angles or be shaped into various desired structures. The conductivity of the composite film containing 44% CCG (550 S/m) is about 10...

Electrospun Nanofibre - Free Floating Chaos

submitted by: arkore
Electrospinning is a method of using high voltage electric fields to transform polymer solutions into nanofibre. The process involves applying high voltage (~10 kV) to a droplet of solution at the end of a capillary (which is visible on the left in the video). The surface charge on the droplet distorts the shape from that adopted by surface tension into what is known as the Taylor cone. From the tip of this cone a jet is ejected in response to the electric stresses on the fluid at that...

Magnetic Warp (Pretty Pictures)

submitted by: SirZerp
Magnetic Warp (Pretty Pictures)This investigation describes and demonstrates a novel technique for the visualization of magnetic fields. Two ferrofluid Hele-Shaw cells have been constructed to facilitate the imaging of magnetic field lines. We deduce that magnetically induced photonic band gap arrays similar to electrostatic liquid crystal operation are responsible for the photographed images and seek to mathematically prove the images are of dipole nature. This is the Pretty Pictures...

CAN GmbH bei Open Uni 2009

submitted by: laurichkollegen

Silicon Nanowire Nucleation

submitted by: Seyet

This is an animation to accurately depict results of Eric Stach's (Purdue University) research on the nucleation kinetics of Si nanowires. The visualization shows other scientists how the graph and equations drive the interaction.
